MedCo Accredited Medical Expert
Independent medico-legal assessment and reporting by a MedCo-accredited Direct Medical Expert
Clarity Medicine provides independent medico-legal medical assessments and reports for appropriate instructions, including MedCo road traffic accident claims.
Dr Khalil is available to accept represented MedCo instructions directly as a Direct Medical Expert (DME) and may also undertake instructions through Medical Reporting Organisations (MROs).
MedCo allows accredited Direct Medical Experts to appear within the MedCo search process for represented claims and also permits DMEs to undertake work through MROs.
MedCo Road Traffic Accident Reports
MedCo is the system used for sourcing medical report providers for relevant low-value road traffic accident and whiplash injury claims in England and Wales.
Dr Khalil can undertake independent medical assessments relating to appropriate RTA injuries, including:
-
neck pain and whiplash-associated symptoms
-
back pain
-
shoulder and upper-limb symptoms
-
headaches following an accident
-
soft-tissue and musculoskeletal symptoms
-
functional impact of injury
-
recovery and treatment to date
-
prognosis and expected recovery
Each assessment is undertaken independently and the resulting report reflects the clinical history, examination findings, available evidence and the doctor's professional medical opinion.
What the assessment involves
A typical medico-legal assessment may include:
-
review of the circumstances of the accident
-
detailed history of symptoms and their development
-
relevant previous medical history
-
treatment received following the accident
-
effect of symptoms on work and daily activities
-
relevant physical examination
-
review of medical records or other evidence where provided
-
consideration of causation
-
consideration of prognosis and expected recovery
Claimant identity is checked in accordance with current MedCo requirements, and the relevant identification is recorded within the report.
Independent medical opinion
The role of the medical expert is independent.
The purpose of the assessment is not to advocate for either the claimant or the compensator, but to provide an objective medical opinion based on the available evidence.
MedCo specifically requires experts to review reports carefully before signing them, and the expert's duty remains to the court.
Reports may address:
Diagnosis and symptoms
The nature and extent of the reported injury and current symptoms.
Causation
Whether the reported symptoms are medically consistent with the accident described, taking account of relevant pre-existing conditions or previous symptoms where applicable.
Functional impact
The effect of symptoms on employment, driving, sleep, household activities, leisure and normal daily activities.
Treatment
Treatment already received and, where appropriate, relevant future treatment considerations.
Prognosis
The likely duration of symptoms and expected recovery based on the individual clinical circumstances.
