Governance, Ethics & Conflict of Interest
At Clarity Medicine, we are committed to providing an independent, ethical, and patient-centred clinical navigation service, particularly for patients and families facing serious or complex medical conditions with limited standard treatment options.
This page explains how Clarity Medicine is governed, how conflicts of interest are managed, how patients are safeguarded, and how transparency is maintained in all aspects of our work.
1. Governance and Accountability
Clarity Medicine is led by Dr Ali Khalil, a GMC-registered medical doctor (GMC number 6137333) with over 20 years’ experience in clinical medicine and clinical trial research.
Clarity Medicine operates to the principles of:
-
Professional accountability
-
Transparency
-
Patient autonomy
-
Evidence-based practice
-
Ethical independence
The service is accountable through:
-
Professional regulation by the General Medical Council (GMC)
-
Clear governance and ethical standards
-
Open communication with patients and partner organisations
-
Defined complaints and feedback pathways
2. Scope of the Service
Clarity Medicine provides independent clinical navigation and information support.
The service may include:
-
Review of patient-provided clinical information
-
Independent, personalised searches for relevant clinical trials or advanced research options (UK and international)
-
Structured summaries to support informed discussions with treating clinicians
Clarity Medicine does not:
-
Provide medical treatment
-
Give treatment recommendations
-
Replace NHS or treating clinicians
-
Enrol patients into clinical trials
-
Guarantee access, eligibility, or clinical benefit
All clinical decisions remain with the patient and their treating healthcare team.
3. Independence and Conflict of Interest
Clarity Medicine is an entirely independent service.
-
We have no financial relationships with pharmaceutical companies, biotechnology companies, contract research organisations (CROs), clinical trial sponsors, clinical trial sites, hospitals, or overseas treatment providers.
-
We do not receive referral fees, finder’s fees, success fees, commission, or any payment linked to patient enrolment in clinical trials or access to treatment.
-
We do not promote specific trials, treatments, hospitals, clinicians, or countries based on financial or commercial interests.
Patients pay only for the professional time and expertise involved in conducting an independent review and search.
4. Professional Background and Separation of Roles
Clarity Medicine is led by Dr Ali Khalil, who also works professionally within the pharmaceutical industry.
To manage potential conflicts of interest:
-
Clarity Medicine operates as a separate and independent entity from any employed roles.
-
The service does not work on products, trials, or sponsors where a conflict of interest could reasonably arise.
-
No confidential, proprietary, or non-public information from any employer or sponsor is used.
-
All work is based solely on publicly available information and patient-provided data.
Any actual, potential, or perceived conflicts of interest are disclosed transparently.
5. Ethical Positioning
Clarity Medicine is founded on the principle of “hope without hype.”
We are committed to:
-
Honest, balanced communication
-
Clear explanation of uncertainty and limitations
-
Avoidance of false reassurance or unrealistic expectations
-
Respect for patient autonomy and informed choice
Our role is to support understanding and exploration, not to persuade, direct, or pressure patients towards specific options.
6. Patient Safeguarding
We recognise that many patients seeking our services may be vulnerable due to illness, uncertainty, or distress.
Safeguarding measures include:
-
Clear explanation of what the service can and cannot provide before engagement
-
Voluntary participation, with no obligation to proceed
-
The right to withdraw at any time
-
Sensitive handling of emotional, ethical, and practical concerns
-
Clear signposting back to treating clinicians and support services where appropriate
Clarity Medicine does not exploit vulnerability or urgency and does not link fees to outcomes or perceived “success.”
If, during engagement, it becomes clear that a patient is experiencing significant distress or may not be in a position to make informed decisions, Clarity Medicine will pause the service and encourage appropriate clinical or support-based input.
Clarity Medicine does not provide emotional or psychological support and encourages patients to continue accessing appropriate clinical, counselling, or charity-based support services alongside any engagement.
7. Transparent Pricing
Clarity Medicine operates a transparent, upfront pricing model.
-
Fees are fixed and agreed in advance
-
Fees reflect professional medical time, expertise, and analytical work
-
Fees are not linked to outcomes, trial enrolment, access to treatment, or clinical benefit
-
No guarantees are made regarding eligibility, availability, or effectiveness of any option identified
Where no suitable options are identified, this is communicated clearly and honestly.
8. Use of Information and Data
-
All work is based on publicly available evidence and patient-provided clinical information
-
Patient data is handled confidentially and in accordance with applicable data protection requirements
-
Information provided by Clarity Medicine is intended to support discussions with treating clinicians, not replace them
9. Relationship with Healthcare Professionals and Organisations
Clarity Medicine:
-
Supports informed conversations between patients and their clinical teams
-
Encourages patients to share all findings with their NHS or treating clinicians
-
Does not interfere with or override clinical decision-making
-
Does not represent itself as an NHS service
The service exists to complement, not compete with, existing healthcare provision.
10. Review, Disclosure, and Continuous Improvement
-
This governance framework is reviewed regularly
-
Any changes are published transparently
-
Any actual or potential conflicts of interest are disclosed promptly
