What happens in an online doctor consultation

  1. Complete the request form (symptoms, history, meds, allergies)

  2. Choose video or phone (same day where available)

  3. Clinical assessment (including red flags)

  4. Advice and plan (self-care, monitoring, next steps)

  5. Documentation if needed (fit note / medical letter where appropriate)

  6. Prescription if appropriate (short-term, safe, and clinically justified)

If your symptoms suggest urgent or face-to-face assessment, we will advise appropriate next steps.

Can an online doctor prescribe medication in the UK?

  • Prescriptions are not guaranteed and depend on clinical assessment.

  • We may issue short-term private prescriptions where clinically appropriate.

  • Some conditions require in-person examination, tests, or NHS GP review.

  • If prescribing is not appropriate, we’ll provide clear advice and signposting.

FAQs

1. How quickly can I get an online doctor appointment?

Most patients are seen the same day, subject to availability. Some appointments may be scheduled for the next working day if clinically appropriate.

2. Can you prescribe antibiotics after an online consultation?

Antibiotics are not guaranteed and are only prescribed where clinically appropriate following a full assessment and safety screening.

3. Do you provide fit notes / sick notes?

Yes. Fit notes (sick notes) may be issued following a clinical assessment if your condition affects your ability to work and a fit note is appropriate.

4. What information do you need from me?

You’ll be asked about your symptoms, medical history, current medications, allergies, and any relevant documents or photos to support a safe assessment.

5. Is an online consultation suitable for children?

Online consultations may be suitable for some children, depending on age and symptoms. Certain conditions require face-to-face assessment, and we may advise NHS or urgent care review where appropriate.

6. Can you contact my NHS GP?

With your consent, we can provide you with a summary of the consultation to share with your NHS GP if needed.

7. What if you think I need urgent care?

If your symptoms suggest urgent or emergency care, we will advise you to contact 999, attend A&E, or use appropriate NHS urgent care services immediately.

8. Are private prescriptions issued the same day?

Where a private prescription is clinically appropriate, it is usually issued the same day as the consultation. This depends on the information provided and clinical assessment.

9. Do you offer follow-up?

Yes. Follow-up advice is provided as part of your consultation, and additional follow-up appointments can be arranged if required.

10. Is this service available UK-wide?

Yes. Our online doctor consultations are available to patients across the UK.

Important
